'THEY HAVE COME' TO SHEFFIELD FC, WITH LOVE

Written by Christopher Towers - May 2023

They have come since

the days of Creswick,

East Bank and Attercliffe.

They have come

to the Club of Pioneers,

where the rules

of the game were

made, where early games

were played, through

the days of rich and poor

they have come through

rationing, come through

war, fashioning fans,

rich and poor.

They have come to the

team with praise and flack,

wearing shirts of quarters,

red and black, they have come

to see them play. And they

came to them one day,

when Milan came their way

with chique and class, move

and pass,  the Italians

had their day,

they came to watch them play.

Teams have come to the coach

and horses, a pub’ by ground

with all resources,

with hops and bottle tops,

to settle in the snug.

They have come to the club

since sixties style, from

factory floor to Facebook.

They have come in the

tick-tock days, changed

with the changing ways,

they have come to the cities

heart. They have come to

the club where the game

did start,

they have come for their

part in the play. Come to

the oldest club, come

for the story, come

for the glory, come

for the Sheffield way.
