Sheffield FC Women 2 Leek Town 1

  • 20/07/2025

On a rainy day at the home of football we hosted Leek Town for our first home friendly of the season as we prepare ourselves for the new season.

The game started slowly, with little action to speak of in the opening 15 minutes, however, Sheffield began to show their game management by getting a tighter grip of the game.

he Club managed to find a way to break the deadlock from a freekick down the right wing that was crossed into the area but confusion struck the Leek Town backline, with it being headed it into their own goal.

Following The Club’s opening goal, a few good chances were accumulated, particularly down the right wing, which were only stopped by good saves from their goalkeeper.

After a good pressing to recover the ball by Alesha Gayle, the Sheffield attacker recovered the ball in a dangerous area, striking a ferocious shot past the goalkeeper to extend our lead in this match.

The chances continued to fall for Graham Abercrombie’s side, with there being a clear intent to notch the third goal in the match. One opportunity dropped to Stacey Buxton, who beat her defender for pace and got a shot on target but it was well saved by the shot-stopper.

As the match drew towards its climax, The Club lost focus after a hint of uncertainty at the back gifted Leek Town a goal. Leah Harrison looked to play the ball out to the centre back but the it was intercepted, and their striker capitalised on that error.

Lessons were learned from the defeat at Huddersfield last time out and together with the new signings that have arrived The club showed their game management and maturity to see off the opposition.
