POEM OF THE MONTH: AT PARK HOUSE
- 04/04/2024
At Park House Written by Chris Towers
It was Creswick and Prest that made the laws,
at Park House, Sheffield, by the river sheaf.
The rules of football made behind those doors,
a rule book upon a page turned a leaf.
And Sheffield played upon meadows rich,
by the river run the old East Bank ground,
but now the shoppers walk upon this pitch
and scurry flat packs in their trolleys round.
With home and garden dreams to find a new,
upon this honoured self-same place,
rest household orange dreams of B and Q,
of furnished households behind curtain lace.
Where those shoppers’ dreams are now unfurled,
where once Sheffield gave football to the world.
