MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC WOMEN VA NOTTINGHAM TRENT WOMEN

  • 16/12/2024

Sheffield FC Women returned to the top of the East Midlands Regional Premier Division on Sunday, as they returned their third convincing victory over Nottingham Trent University of the season, running out 5-2 winners at a boggy Home of Football Stadium.

Club took the lead on 7 minutes, as Lucy Cook’s cross from the right caused mayhem in the box, with NTU’s Sarah Newton knocking the ball into her own goal.

The visitors grabbed a deserved equaliser just before the half hour mark, as they sprung a swift counterattack, that was finished by a great strike by Ainsley Allan.

Sheffield finally took control in the second half, and on 61 minutes they retook the lead, as a Cook through ball was neatly tucked away by Stacey Buxton.

Two minutes later it was 3-1, Lucy Cook once again the provider, chipping the ball for Tilly Hallas-Potts to nod home.

The fourth came on 70 minutes, substitute and debutant Freya Wilson marking her first appearance with a goal, Cook the provider and Wilson heading home.

It was 5-1 on 82 minutes, Pip Cassidy getting her first of the season, using her height to head home at the back post.

NTU grabbed a consolation with four minutes to go, Newton making amends for her earlier own goal, pouncing on a rebound after Ellie Sharpe had denied her initial shot after being put through on goal.
