MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS SHERWOOD COLLIERY

  • 14/02/2025

Vill Powell’s Sheffield FC came out on top in the battle of the bottom two on Saturday, as they beat Sherwood Colliery 2-0, in what could only be described as a war of attrition.

The first half was pretty much a non-event as far as chances went, with Luke Mangham's shot the only effort of note, producing a fine save from ex-Clubbie Jordan Pierrepont.

After the break there was a little more action, Sherwood never really offering much with a wayward shot from Abdul Saad the best effort, whilst Luke Aldrich nearly converted a long ball from Jack Hardacre – only to be denied by a fine save from Pierrepont.

The Sherwood keeper continued to frustrate the home side, denying Archie White at point blank range, and it looked like it was going to be a familiar story for the World’s First.

The hosts eventually took the lead on 79 minutes, an inch-perfect corner from substitute Stephen Brogan found Connor Cutts at the back post, with the makeshift centre half powering home a downward header to make it 1-0.

Club made the points safe four minutes later, Luke Aldrich slipping through Nathan Modest, with the sub taking the ball fifty yards before coolly slotting under Pierrepont.

It could have been an even more impressive scoreline for Sheffield, as Raeece Ellington saw his effort deflected inches wide, whilst Aldrich scraped the post with a shot on the turn.

Sherwood made an effort to get back in the game in the final few minutes, finally asserting some pressure on the home side, however the best they could offer was a shot from substitute Guillermo Pacheco with the last kick off the game that was easily stopped by Mikey Roxburgh.
