Sheffield FC opened their 2023/24 campaign with a win at the Home of Football, beating Ossett United 3-1.

Sheffield started the strongest with Luke Aldrich going closest early on with two efforts, the first lofted over the bar with just keeper Joe Green to beat, with a second denied by a great save following a mazy run by the big forward.

Club took the lead on 30 minutes, Luke Mangham pressing the Ossett defence to win possession in the area, before laying off for Nathan Modest to curl a sweet shot into the top corner from 18 yards.

Modest made it 2-0 eight minutes after the restart, Rory Coleman’s corner was pinpoint accurate into the middle, with the striker rising highest to nod home.

Two minutes later Ossett pulled one back, a mix up in the Sheffield area saw Rafa Ferreira stab home from close range, making it 2-1.

The game was wrapped up by Sheffield two minutes from time, great work by Connor Cutts on the right put the ball into a dangerous place, giving Benni Ndlovu an easy tap in from close range.

The away side had a chance of consolation in injury time, with the referee awarding a penalty, however this was squandered by Ferreira as Jordan Pierrepont saved the spot kick.
