MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS LIVERSEDGE
- 07/02/2024
Sheffield FC won a hard-earned victory over 10-man Liversedge, running out 1-0 victors in a messy competition, at a wet and windy MEPS International Home of Football.
Following on from their convincing victory seven days earlier at Ashington, Sheffield started lively, and were on the front foot from the off. Stephen Brogan was giving the visitors a massive headache, peppering the defence with some pinpoint free-kicks, whilst Connor Cutts went close with a couple of efforts that grazed the frame of the goal.
Club had a goal ruled out in the first half, Benni Ndlovu judged offside, after turning home a rebound from a Brogan strike was only palmed out by debutant keeper Jake Oram.
Liversedge were reduced to ten men on 29 minutes, with Liam Hardy picking up a second yellow card, in what looked to be a harsh call for simulation after a collision in the box with Brandon Ferron.
With the man advantage, Sheffield started to turn the screw in the second period, with Ndlovu and Rory Coleman both going close with shots on goal.
The hosts took the lead on 69 minutes, Ndlovu slipping the ball through to Nathan Modest, who pushed beyond keeper Jake Oram.
It should have been wrapped up ten from time, as Luke Mangham set Benni Ndlovu free on goal, however the striker took the option of chopping on to his left foot and fired over.
Liversedge pushed in the dying moments for an unlikely equaliser, and came close in stoppage time when Joe Skars' corner was headed onto the bar by Joe Walton, but Sheffield were able to hold on for a well-deserved three points.
