It's 4 wins on the bounce for The Club

Sheffield FC made it four wins on the bounce on Tuesday night, as they ran out 3-2 winners, in an entertaining game against Grimsby Borough.

Despite the hosts making a bright start, it was Borough who had the first opening, with Adam Drury missing a golden opportunity from a close-range header after a flick on by Sam Topliss.

The breakthrough didn’t come until the 33rd minute for Sheffield, a throw from the left bobbled around the area, Brad Beatson teed the ball to Luke Mangham on the edge of the box, who in turn hit a fierce shot into the bottom corner.

Club could have had a second just before the break, a pinpoint pass through the middle by Connor Cutts picked out Cameron Johnson with a free run on goal, only a fine stop from Liam Higton stopped the hosts extending their lead.

Sheffield’s second came seven minutes after the restart, again a throw into the Grimsby box wasn’t cleared efficiently, with Benni Ndlovu seeing his first effort blocked by Caine Winfarrah, before placing the ball in off the post from 20 yards out.

That goal spurred Grimsby into life, and they returned fire almost immediately, taking advantage of a quick clearance from Higton which was helped on by Reece York, allowing a free run to goal by Adam Drury who tucked the ball home.

Sheffield had a chance to get a third, after Benni Ndlovu robbed the ball in the 18 yard area and squaring into the middle for a bit of pinball, however none of the home forwards could get a firm enough connection to drive the ball home.

The wastefulness at the other end of the pitch came to haunt Club, and on 68 minutes the visitors were level, another break down field was failed to be cleared with Adam Drury the man again on the spot to stab home.

Club weren’t finished though, and moments later Brad Beatson saw his header from a Rory Coleman corner rattle the bar, giving the visitors a stern warning that this was not finished.

That warning was not heeded, and on 72 minutes a Coleman corner from the opposite side was met by the head of Beatson, this time there was no stopping it making it 3-2 to Sheffield.

Bradley Beatson put The Club back in front with a bullet header

Borough pressed for much of the rest of the game, with the closest effort a long-range drive from Winfarrah that skimmed the top of the bar, but Sheffield were able to hold of for all three points.
