MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS BRIDLINGTON TOWN
- 03/10/2023
Sheffield FC showed tenacity and determination to come from behind to beat Bridlington Town, winning 3-1 at a rainy Home of Football Stadium, ending a run of three defeats for Ryan Cresswell's men.
In conditions that were more suited to ducks than football, Club continued their attacking style of football from Tuesday's defeat at Newton Aycliffe, starting off on the front foot, and should have taken the lead in the opening minutes at Curtis Morrison split the defence only for Luke Mangham to skew the ball high and wide.
Bridlington took the lead against the run of play on 12 minutes, as an excellent through ball from Ellis Barkworth was steered past keeper Edd Hall, with Lewis Dennison getting the vital touch to make it 1-0.
Club levelled in the third minute of first half stoppage time, keeper James Hitchcock parrying an effort from Rory Coleman into the path of Luke Mangham, who showed calm and resolve to finish coolly.
The second half was one way traffic, and Club should have gone in front after Stephen Brogan teed up Benni Ndlovu, only to be denied by a point blank save from James Hitchcock.
Sheffield finally took the lead with eight minutes remaining, a long ball from the back from Josh Burns was held up by Mangham, with Morrison working some space on the edge of the area, before curling an excellent shot into the corner.
In the 88th minute the hosts made certain of the points, moments after hitting the post, Morrison was the one who rose highest in the box to loop a header from a Jamie Yates cross over the stranded keeper.
