MATCH REPORT: PONTEFRACT COLLIERIES VS SHEFFIELD FC

  • 18/04/2024

Sheffield FC came away from a soggy Hunter Stadium empty handed on Tuesday evening, as play-off chasing Pontefract Collieries ran out 1-0 winners, in a game that was played in what could only be called treacherous conditions.

With the groundstaff having worked hard to get the game on, the pitch was surprisingly very dry, however rather uneven.

Club should have taken the lead midway through the first half, Cameron Johnson slipping the ball through to in-form Finn O’Boyle who only had the keeper to beat, however this time the keeper Lloyd Allinson was able to stay big and block the final effort.

Colls grabbed the lead ten before the break, a long throw-in from the left by Jack Greenhough was met by the head of Jack Steers, and despite his first effort being blocked he was able to scramble the rebound over the line to make it 1-0.

This was followed by a downpour of gargantuan proportions, as first sleet, and then heavy rain saturated the playing area, making it a bit of a lottery to play on.

Both managers decided they would get the second half played, and to the credit of both players and officials, it was finished without any drama, or for that matter memorable action.
