Match Report - Pickering Town vs Sheffield FC - Saturday 20th November, 2021 (4-1)
- 20/11/2021
Sheffield FC suffered an unexpected defeat on Saturday, as they fell to a 4-1 defeat at bottom of the table Pickering Town, with young Sam Barker the hero with a four goal haul.
The game started off bright for both teams, but on 8 minutes a run down the left from Brandon Holdsworth ended up with him getting tangled with Jack Birks in the box, referee Ian Johnston pointed to the spot - up stepped Barker to send Jonathan Hedge the wrong way.
Five minutes later and it was 2-0, Pickering catching the Sheffield defence looking lost, with Barker appearing through the middle to slot the ball past Hedge.
Club rallied back somewhat, but were caught out again on 33minutes, this time Barker popping up in the middle to turn home full-back Jack Johnson's cross from the right hand side.
The second half saw Sheffield come out of the blocks with some intent, and were able to grab a response on the hour mark following a great run by substitute Jordan Walshaw and an assist by Ben Turner, with debutant SAm Ackroyd stabbing the ball home from close range.
What followed was a brave rearguard action from the hosts, with Sheffield throwing everything at them in a desperate attacking display, however were denied pulling the gap closer with a goalmouth scramble seeing the ball turned wide by Leigh Overton in the Pike's net.
In the final minute of the game the salt was finally rubbed in the wound, another penalty awarded for a clumsy challenge in the box, with Barker stepping up to wrap up a memorable day for him - and one to forget for Sheffield.
