MATCH REPORT: GRIMSBY BOROUGH VS SHEFFIELD FC (4-0)

  • 10/10/2023

A shell-shocked Sheffield FC side continued their poor away run on Saturday, as they fell to a productive Grimsby Borough outfit, losing 4-0 at the Bradley Stadium.

Borough made the perfect start to the game as in the 4th minute, a ball to the back post by Adam Drury was met by the head of Tyler Edwards who struck the post, with the ball trickling over the line with Harvey Tomlinson making sure from close range.

Club had a chance to equalise immediately, a great ball across the box by Curtis Morrison hitting the inside of the post, rebounding straight into the hands of a very grateful keeper Liam Higton.

Grimsby's luck continued moments later, as Adam Drury headed a Luke Mangham volley off the line, whilst Mangham had a "goal" ruled out for offside.

The score was doubled midway through the half, as Jack Richardson's shot ricocheted in off the post, after some great work by Boro's loanee striker Edwin Essel.

Sheffield's misfortune continued, with the woodwork denying the visitors once again, this time Mangham was the one to hit the post five minutes from the break.

Stephen Brogan made his 50th appearance for The Club

The game was put beyond Club's reach just 16 seconds after the restart, Sheffield kicked off and lost possession on the left, a long ball over the top by Drury was collected by Essel who took the ball on and round Ed Hall to place into the empty net.

Sheffield were reduced to ten men midway through the half, Rory Coleman got in a dispute with Harvey Tomlinson and Jack Richardson, with the Club stalwart being shown a red card for violent conduct.

Salt was rubbed in the wound ten minutes from time, Jaz Goundry lofted a ball from the back that sailed over the defence's heads, allowing substitute Bailey Adamson to take his time to slot the ball home to make it 4-0.
