MATCH REPORT: GLOSSOP NORTH END VS SHEFFIELD FC - PRE-SEASON

  • 10/07/2023

Sheffield FC racked up their first win of the 2023-24 preseason schedule, running out 2-0 winners over Glossop North End at Surrey Street, in what was an excellent controlled display from Ryan Cresswell’s men.

Club took the lead in the 13th minute after referee Alan Clayton awarded a penalty for what appeared to be a case of leaning on by one of the Glossop defenders, up to the mark stepped Rory Coleman, who made no repeat of effort at Wombwell by easing the ball past the keeper.

The visitors were asking all the questions, and nearly doubled the lead in spectacular style, following an acrobatic scissor kick effort by Nathan Modest rattling the bar from a Connor Cutts’ cross.

Benni Ndlovu should have converted a great chance in the closing stages of the first half, showing superb pace to outstrip the defence, only to slice the ball wide with only the keeper to beat.

It was more of the same in the second half, Club doing all the pressing, whilst able to keep North End at arm’s length. Corey Glaves tested the keeper with a great volley, whilst Luke Mangham, Curt Morrison and Luke Aldrich were a menace to the Glossop defence.

Five minutes from time Sheffield got the second they deserved, a Stephen Brogan free-kick found Reece Fielding with pinpoint accuracy, the big defender doing what he does best by thumping his header home.
