Club Legend Marc Newsham bagged a first half hatrick

Sheffield FC racked up double figures on Tuesday evening at The Home of Football, as they eased past CMAFL outfit Elite AFC 10-0 in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup Second Round, setting up a tie with local rivals Handsworth in December.

On a very heavy surface, it took Club until the 22nd minute to make the breakthrough, with Connor Cutts striking a shot from just outside the area.

The lead was doubled on 25 minutes when Elite were unable to deal with a Rory Coleman free-kick, and following a bit of a scramble, it was Marc Newsham who claimed the goal.

Newsham grabbed his second goal of the game just moments later, showing composure just inside the box, curling the ball into the far corner to make it 3-0. Club squandered a few gilt-edged opportunities to add to the scoreline, but finally got the fourth in the 38th minute, when keeper George Bason could only parry Stephen Brogan’s effort into the path of Marc Newsham who walked the ball into the empty net.

It was 5-0 just on the half time whistle, Stephen Brogan’s corner found Reece Fielding, with the Sheffield skipper rising highest to nod home. The sixth goal came four minutes after the restart, Tom Raithby was judged to have tripped Benni Ndlovu in the box; Luke Mangham stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way.

It took until the 67th minute for Sheffield to add another, a Jordan Pierrepont ball up field was nodded on by Connor Cutts, leaving Luke Mangham clear on goal to tuck it into the corner.

The eighth goal moments later was a gift for Club, Elite’s substitute keeper Spencer White dwelled too long on the ball, getting dispossessed by Leojo Davidson on the edge of the area allowing the winger to walk the ball into the net.

Eight became nine on 73 minutes, White blocking Mangham’s effort at point blank range, with Cutts finishing in off the crossbar. The scoring was completed five minutes from time, Alfie Smith tapping in at the back post, after Ted Cribley’s cross from the right-hand side of the box.
