MATCH REPORT: ANSTEY NOMADS VS SHEFFIELD FC WOMEN

  • 06/09/2024

Life in the East Midlands Regional League started with a victory on the road for Matt Chatfield's Women's Team, as Sheffield FC ran out convincing 3-1 winners over Anstey Nomads, at a warm and humid Broughton Park.

After taking some time to settle in, Sheffield eventually took the lead on 23 minutes, with the hosts failing to deal with skipper Nicole Kemp's corner, with vice-captain Brooke Smith slamming home the loose ball to make it 1-0.

That became 2-0 on 34 minutes, as Sadie Smith caught Nomads' keeper Holly Mayfield napping, firing in a well-placed free-kick from fully 35 yards out.

Anstey pulled one back against the run of play seven minutes into the second half, Annie Barnes sending a looping effort towards the goal, with Leah Kellogg unable to get a strong enough hand to keep it out.

It made for a nervy second half as the Clubettes tried to make the game safe, but having to be wary of being caught on the break, and the visitors missed a couple of glorious chances to make it safe.

First Lucy Cook put the ball on a plate for Caitlyn Douglas, with the shot skewing wide of the open goal, whilst Nicole Kemp struck the bar with a free-kick moments later.

They eventually made it safe four minutes from time, Lucy Cook the provider, with Sami Smith lofting the ball over the stranded keeper from 20 yards to make it 3-1.
