MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS GRIMSBY BOROUGH

  • 12/09/2024

An injury-time goal gave Grimsby Borough all three points on Tuesday night, as Club continued their winless start to the league season, losing 1-0 at the Home of Football. It was another cagey start for Sheffield, although the hosts were the ones to press in the first half, producing the better football.

Their best piece of work came from a defence to attack break that saw Luke Aldridge pick out Jack Watson down the right, with an equally good cross picking out Jack Dolman who was denied by Liam Higton.

Borough always had the air of looking dangerous, and had to be grateful to keeper Myles Wright, who was on hand to stop an Adam Drury drive from the edge of the box.

The second half saw Club have a great chance to open the scoring, a free-kick from Rory Coleman was flicked on by Connor Cutts, with Jack Watson stabbing inches wide.

Grimsby gave a huge warning of exactly how dangerous they were fifteen minutes from time, Jaedyn Chibanga hitting a sweet shot on the turn, beating everyone except the post which came to the hosts rescue.

In the third minute of injury time, and with everyone expecting the game to fizzle out to a goal-less draw, skipper Adam Drury picked up the ball on the edge of the area having been allowed too much space, curling a beauty of a shot into the top corner leaving the home side stunned and defeated.
