After an eventful affair in The World’s Oldest Derby, Hallam beat Sheffield FC on penalties for the Alan Cooper Memorial Trophy.
Sheffield FC opened the scoring with a goal from Cameron Bedford who shot from outside the box. The effort saw Hugo Warhurst fail to keep hold of the ball, with it trickling into the back of the net.
After 25 minutes on the clock, Hallam started to notch more chances, but Sheffield still led the match at the halfway point of the opening stanza.
Hallam found an equaliser through a very unfortunate goal after the ball bounced a few times in the 18-yard box before Lichfield headed in to bring the score level.
Another great chance this time ended with a shot from Alex Hardwick, but his resulting effort crashed against the outside of the post and behind. The Club were clearly looking to put pressure on Hallam’s defence.
Sheffield continued to flourish after a neat dribble from Brandon Webster helped to eventually work out an opening for a cross to Hardwick, who tried an overhead kick but the effort was matched by Warhurst.
Sheffield created a great opening by moving the ball nicely around their defence which resulted in an opening that Sam Greenhouse took in style, smashing it top bins to restore our lead.
After a good cross on the right wing the ball dropped for Catt, who had two bites at it - his second shot went narrowly wide.
Moments later, Catt once again sparked havoc, having managed to shimmy past their defender. He found Connor Cutts at the edge of the area but his shot went over the bar.
The last 10 minutes of the match were even, with both sides sharing the chances.
In added time Hallam managed to find an equaliser through a corner that Sheffield were unable to clear, with the ball eventually falling to Danny South. As a result, penalties would decide the fate of the contest.
Hallam missed their first penalty that gave Sheffield the advantage throughout the first four penalties in the shootout. The game was decided when Jim Pollard missed his spot kick, leaving Warhurst with the opportunity to seal the win for Hallam, which he converted.
