Sheffield FC From Afar - By Chris Towers

You wore your shimmering Sheffield shirt,

squares of red and black, in slippy sand,

as you sat with buckets digging dirt.

Dreaming of Sheffield, under the blue,

as you lathered sun cream on your skin,

as the long, long days of summer flew.

Ice cream dripping from your mouth to chin,

with drizzling raspberry and soft,

sweet memories of a Sheffield win.

You played out goals in grassy dunes,

trousers rolling round and low on hips,

in those hazy, lazy afternoons,

as the dog made tunnels in the wet.

We made our castles, drank cordial dregs,

under a low sun of scarlet, set.

You wore your shimmering Sheffield shirt,

as you sat with buckets digging dirt,

dreaming of Sheffield, under the blue,

as the long, long days of summer flew.
