Match Report - Tadcaster Albion vs Sheffield FC - Saturday 14th August, 2021 (2-2)

  • 14/08/2021

It was a game of two halves at Ings Road on Saturday, as hosts Tadcaster Albion came from two down to rescue a point with a late goal, ending 2-2 after Sheffield FC had bossed the first period of an entertaining game.

Goals from debutants Charlie Reaney and Jacob Fenton put Club in the driving seats, but second half replies from Junayd Cassius-Gill and Eddie Church saw The Brewers fight back at the death, salvaging a deserved point in the opening game of the season.

As far as seasons start it couldn’t have been much better for Sheffield, and after early pressure Cody Prior was tripped on the edge of the area, with Charlie Reaney stepping up to place the set-piece into the top corner.

It was an end-to-end contest with both sides going close; Donald Chimalilo forcing Jonathan Hedge to tip over with a fierce effort from 25 yards, whilst Sheffield’s counter attacks causing the home defence plenty to think about.

Club extended their lead on 34 minutes, Cody Prior sending a free-kick in the box, Lee Cooksey headed it back across the goal, with Jacob Fenton forcing the ball over the line after Marc Newsham had hit the bar.

Taddy almost pulled one back within seconds of the restart, Edward Church hitting the post after making space from a Freddie Sass ball, whilst the same paring went close in the last few minutes of the game - with Sass sending a ball across the face of goal, Church just unable to make the vital content.

Just before the break, Club squandered the chance to kill the game, with Joseph Cummings inches away from making it three with his head.

After the interval the home side came out of the blocks firing, and within five minutes pulled a goal back, defender Dan Hartley breaking down the wing to feed Junayd Cassius-Gill to sweep home from just inside the area.

The pressure started to come from Tadcaster with the hosts firmly on the front foot and went close with Jonathan Hedge denying Corey Roper and Cassius-Gill with a double save, with Church also going close with an effort inches wide.

Sheffield also gave problems as well, with Jacques Etia going on a solo run that went straight at Harrison Davison-Hale, whilst Jamie Yates showed deceptive speed and skill to break free on the left – sending in a divine cross that Marc Newsham should have got on the end of.

In the last few minutes Club were dealt a hammer-blow, as defender Josh Parsons had to leave the field with a head injury, and with the visitors having used all their substitutions, the had to finish the game with a man deficit.

Injury time saw an inevitable wave of Tadcaster pressure, and they eventually levelled in injury time, Roper’s corner being nodded home by Eddie Church.

In the last seconds the hosts nearly snatched an unlikely win, Donald Chimalilo weaving his way through the Club defence, before lashing a shot thankfully inches wide.
