MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS WINTERTON RANGERS

  • 20/03/2024
The Club have now won 7 out of their last 8 games

Sheffield FC continued their fine form moving up to 10th in the NPL East Division on Tuesday night, running out comfortable 4-0 winners over struggling Winterton Rangers, in the second of their March exile games at Stocksbridge Park Steels' Bracken Moor Stadium.

Sheffield started brightest, with an early free-kick from Rory Coleman and a solo run from Cameron Johnson both testing Winterton keeper Nathan Popple in the opening few minutes.

Club went even closer on 12 minutes, Johnson bursting down the left and crossing in a fierce drive, with Luke Mangham rattling against the inside of the post from close range.

The hosts suffered a massive blow midway through the first half, centre-half Bradley Beatson leapt to win a routine header against Luke Williams, only to land awkwardly and roll his ankle causing a sore and serious looking injury.

Sheffield continued to dominate proceedings, limiting Winterton to just one real chance in the half, a solo run and shot by Owen Vincent that was collected with ease by Edd Hall.

Pressure was starting to mount from the home side, and just before the break Jorome Slew weaved his way through the defence, teeing up Cameron Johnson whose shot was deflected onto the bar.

From the resulting corner the ball fell at the far side to Luke Mangham, his cross was met by the head of Connor Cutts, who in turn directed to Alfie Smith who steered home from close range.

Club doubled the lead nine minutes after the restart, Jaime Ture misread a Rory Coleman through ball, with Cam Johnson capitalising on the gamble to take the ball on and coolly rounding the keeper to make it 2-0.

Winterton's task was made even harder on 65 minutes as skipper Lee Ridley tripped Jorome Slew in the box, picking up his second yellow card in three minutes, with Luke Mangham dispatching the spot-kick with gusto.

The fourth came on 76 minutes, a cross from the left from Stephen Brogan was flicked on by Luke Mangham, giving Connor Cutts the easy job of sliding home at the back post.

It could easily have been more than four as Sheffield turned the screw in the last 15 minutes, With Jerome Slew missing a great chance, whilst Rory Coleman will be wondering how he didn't convert an open goal chance after Popple had denied a close range Cutts header.
