MATCH REPORT: SHEFFIELD FC VS STOCKSBRIDGE PARK STEELS

It just wasn’t our day

Stocksbridge took the bragging rights from the local-derby on Bank Holiday Monday, as Sheffield FC were unable to recover from a disastrous opening ten minutes, with the visitors running out 2-1 victors.

Steels opened the scoring on three minutes, Jiao Silva crossing from the left, with Jack Haslam miss-hitting his shot which bobbled over the deceived Myles Wright's legs to make it 1-0.

The second goal on 7 minutes came in farcical fashion, a long ball over the top caught Club napping and after some slapstick attempts to clear the ball from the area, it was bundled over the line by Alexander Hardwick.

It could have got a whole lot worse, as Sheffield were caught napping at the back once more with Hardwick out-thinking the Sheffield defence, keeper Wright hauled down the striker but made amends by guessing the right way to keep the hosts in the game.

That save woke Sheffield up, and on 24 minutes they pulled one back, as Jack Dolman beat two defenders on the left to tee up in-form Luke Aldrich who took one touch before sliding the ball home.

Club continued to press and seconds into the second period they had a chance to level matters, Jack Tinker hauled down Luke Aldrich, up stepped Luke Mangham with the spot kick only for Harry Garman to dive early and correct to deny the shot.

The introduction of Jack Watson livened things up for the home side, however the ex-Steels player was unable to convert two golden chances, both of which he put wide of the target.

There looked like there could be an unlikely late equaliser in injury time, Alfie Smith getting above everyone to power a header goalwards, only for Garman to deny with a world-class save to ensure the visitors took all three points.
