MATCH REPORT: RUSHALL OLYMPIC VS SHEFFIELD FC (FA CUP)

The two-division gap was evident at Coles Lane on Saturday, as National League North outfit Rushall Olympic clinically swept aside Sheffield FC in the Emirates FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round, running out comfortable 5-0 winners.

Club started the game on the front foot and looked to have taken the lead in the first minute, as a Rory Coleman header was met by the head of Luke Mangham, with referee Luis Griffiths deciding that keeper Paul White had kept the ball from crossing the line.

Rushall were quick to make the visitors pay for failing to convert this effort in the 11th minute, as good build up play from Terrell Pennant and Sam McLintock found Rod McGlinchey on the edge of the box, who poked his shot under keeper Myles Wright.

Two minutes later it was 2-0 to the home side, Sam McLintock’s shot was blocked by Myles Wright, with Terrell Pennant on hand to stab the rebound home.

Olympic dominated the rest of the half, with Sheffield doing their best to repel all the attacks, limiting the hosts to long-range efforts by McLintock going over the top.

Ten minutes after the restart Rushall received a massive blow as full-back Cam McWilliams had to leave the pitch, injuring himself after a rash tackle of Club’s Jack Watson, with the Pics’ man suffering a broken clavicle and pausing the game for ten minutes whilst receiving attention from physiotherapists from both sides.

The break in play reinvigorated Sheffield somewhat, and great play from AJ Greaves saw him feed Luke Aldrich in on goal, with the big striker just firing wide.

On 74 minutes the game was put out of reach, another case of pinball and Club unable to clear their lines, with Terrell Pennant firing into the far corner on the half volley.

As before in the first half it took just two more minutes for the home side to add to their tally, this time with a fair bit of fortune, as Samuel McLintock’s shot took a massive deflection off a defender to sail past a stranded Myles Wright.

Two minutes from time the scoring was completed, Camron McWilliams’ sending an inch-perfect ball over the top, allowing substitute Danny King the opportunity to beat the offside line and calmly stroke the ball in to make it 5-0.
