MATCH REPORT: CARLTON TOWN VS SHEFFIELD FC

  • 21/08/2024

Sheffield FC battled to a hard-earned point at Carlton Town on Tuesday night, coming away from Stoke Lane with a 1-1 draw, to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Carlton came out of the blocks quickest and were in front after just four minutes, a long throw from Lewis Durow caught the visitors napping, Lamin Manneh chested the ball on to youngster Jack Newall who tapped into the net at the back post.

Club levelled matters on 19 minutes; Brad Beatson’s header returned Felix Annan’s goal-kick with interest to send Jack Watson scooting down the left, with the winger sending in an inch-perfect cross for Luke Aldrich to slam home via a deflection.

The remainder of the half was a scrappy affair, with Lamin Manneh getting a shot on target which was easily dealt with by Myles Wright, and a Rory Coleman free-kick that was batted away by Annan the only real points of note as both sides cancelled each other out.

The hosts were the more assertive in the second period, and it took an imperious performance from Club’s number one Myles Wright, who maintained parity despite a sustained onslaught.

Wright’s show stopping moment came in the 56th minute where he delivered an excellent triple save, denying Niall Hylton twice – once from distance and once from point-blank range – and recovering to stop a Niall Davie drive.

Carlton were denied by man-of-the-match Wright further, stopping Davie from distance and Manneh with an impressive one-on-one save, ensuring Sheffield went home north with a priceless point.
