MATCH REPORT: BRIGHOUSE TOWN VS SHEFFIELD FC
- 12/12/2023
Sheffield FC finally broke their away hoodoo on Friday night, gaining their first away points of the season in a frantic contest, beating Brighouse Town 1-0 at St Giles Road.
It was a highly motivated Club side that bossed most of the first period, with new signing Cameron Johnson impressing up front on his debut, however neither side really posed much threat at the final hurdle.
The visitors eventually took the lead on 60 minutes, a Stephen Brogan corner was swung at by Benni Ndlovu, and whilst he didn’t connect sweetly, it was enough for Alfie Smith to help it on its way into the net from close range.
Three minutes later it could have been two, another Brogan corner caused all manner of problems for the Brighouse defence, with keeper Jamie Hassall doing well to keep out Connor Cutts’ header.
Sheffield looked to have won a penalty midway through the half, Hassall appeared to have felled Ndlovu in the area, referee Watson however saw differently awarding the winger a yellow card for simulation.
Brighouse pressed for the final fifteen minutes; however they were unable to get beyond a resolute backline, and unable to get the equaliser to deny Club a well-earned win.
