Celebrations After Marc Newsham's Goal

Sheffield FC got a vital three points in their battle for survival, as they overcame fellow strugglers Bridlington Town with a 2-0 win at Queensgate, with second half goals from leading scorer Marc Newsham and 18-year-old starlet Sam Greenhouse.

The main talking points came in the opening fifteen minutes, as Brid's player-manager Brett Agnew chased a ball down in the Sheffield area, with a brave stop completed by Club's keeper Ryan Musselwhite coming at the expense of an accidental collision with the Seasiders' striker. What followed was a push, shove and throttle stramash with Brid captain Pete Davidson and Sheffield veteran Damien Magee.

Referee LIam Smith decided after an assessment of the keeper to show Agnew a red card, with Davidson and Magee following him down the tunnel.

The rest of the first half was a scrappy exhibition, with the game punctuated frequently by the sound of Mr Smith's whistle, and production of yellow cards for the most innocuous of fouls. Despite having the man advantage, Sheffield looked rather tame going forward, with the best chances coming to the home side through Ollie Green and Louis Beckett.

Club started the second half like a house on fire, and it took just two minutes for the visitors to take the lead; Sam Greenhouse dug a cross out from the right wing that was headed onto his own bar by Jaz Goundry, with Marc Newsham the poacher as ever to head home from his distance.

The game developed into an end-to-end affair, with Sheffield having the most efforts - mainly from distance - with Leigh Whelan, Greenhouse and James Baxendale all attempting from range, but missing the target.

Bridlington fought gamely, and didn't let Sheffield settle into any pattern, with the introduction of substitute Danny Earl giving the visitors plenty to think about at the back. Club's own substitute Luke Rawson saw the last fifteen ease into something more comfortable, and it was his interchange with Greenhouse that saw all the visitors' nerves finally settled, with a one-two on the right that was finished with a thunderbolt into the far corner from a narrow angle by Greenhouse - with the youngster summing up what it meant to the noisy travelling support with a fine acrobatic back-flip.

This win - Club's first away win of the season - takes them out of the relegation zone, knowing their fate is in their own hands, with safety possibly assured on Easter Monday should the results go their way.
