MATCH REPORT: BRIDLINGTON TOWN VS SHEFFIELD FC

It was a huge victory for The Club on the East Coast

Sheffield moved up two places to 14th in the Pitching In Division One East on Saturday, following a calm and measured display at Queensgate, ensuring they left the Bridlington seaside with a 2-1 win.

The first half saw both sides cancel each other out, with virtually no shots on goal, nor chances created. Sheffield did create one opening midway through the half, Stephen Brogan and Luke Mangham cleverly created an opening for Benni Ndlovu, however the winger was stretching and could only half hit his shot into the hands of James Hitchcock.

At the other end Bridlington offered little, their best and only chance came from a snapshot from Will Sutton, one that was collected with ease by Edd Hall.
The second period could only be more exciting than the first, and early bookings to Brid’s Alex Markham and Club’s Alfie Smith, indicated this would be the case.
It still took until the hour mark for a decent attempt on goal, Connor Cutts and Benni Ndlovu combining with Stephen Brogan in a flowing move, with Brogan’s end product whistling just over the bar.

Rory Coleman made his 100th appearance for The Club

The breakthrough came on 71 minutes, another swift break on the left saw Brogan send in a deep cross to Mangham who saw his acrobatic effort saved by James Hitchcock, but there was nothing stopping substitute Cam Johnson’s emphatic finish making it 1-0 to the visitors.

Club made it 2-0 on 83 minutes following Edd Hall’s long free-kick from his own half, Johnson fed Cutts whose cross was missed by Hitchcock, giving Mangham the opportunity to drive home from a tight angle.

Brid pulled one back five minutes later with a delightful goal, a throw from the right was taken on by Lewis Dennison, teeing up Harry Milner who swivelled and hit the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area.

It should have been a nervy last couple of minutes for Sheffield, however, they were aided when Markham received a second yellow for a foul on Cameron Johnson, ensuring it was a quiet finish for The World’s First.
