Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Alex is still a teenager after he first appeared as a 17-year-old during pre-season in 2019 and looked instantly at home in senior football at this level. During the friendlies he impressed with his confidence, pace, and willingness to run at defenders and notched a couple of goals for good measure. He had joined the club in the summer after previously being on the books at Lincoln City.

He made his competitive debut for Sheffield when he came off the bench in an FA Cup win in late August and made his full debut in the following game in the NPL. His next two appearances both ended in 6-0 victories with his first senior goal registered in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup win over holders High Green Villa. Following this he featured in all but 1 of the next 12 games, the last of those coming just days after his 18th birthday. The run including starts League Cup and Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup victories and he was also involved in cup action as Club made progress in the FA Youth Cup.

After the youngsters had already gone through two rounds Alex turned in a 5-star display in a stunning 7-0 win over Eccleshill United, netting 4 goals in the first half and completing the rout with his 5th after the break. This set up an historical trip to play against National League side Wrexham – the world’s oldest possible international club fixture taking place at the famous Racecourse Ground. Once again, the young striker showed his quality with a stunning goal from the halfway line, and another controversially ruled out for offside, as the run ended in a narrow defeat after a thrilling game.

Either side of the new year Alex featured in a run of matches, winning an important penalty in the last of those to see Club progress to the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup Semi Finals. His final game of last season also saw another important cup contribution with a coolly converted penalty in the shootout as League Cup holders Trafford were knocked out of the competition to put Club into the last 8. Sadly, of course, the season was prematurely cut short before Alex had a chance to add to his 21 appearances and possibly help the club to their first silverware in a decade.

Heavily involved in pre-season so far, he continues to play with a maturity which belies his age and show all the attributes of a player who can go further in the game. Under the watchful eye of experienced strikers such as Kirk Jackson and Marc Newsham he has plenty of time to add games, goals and lift some trophies in a Sheffield FC shirt over the coming years.
