Carlton Town ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at mid-table Sheffield FC, on Saturday at the Home of Football, to continue their press for the play off positions.

Sheffield’s plans took a hit early on, as skipper Adam Chapman limped off on 7 minutes with a torn calf muscle, having to have rearrange the team to cover a massive loss.

Tyler Blake was the first on the pitch to create a chance, as he took the ball around keeper Jonathan Hedge, only to be denied by a Ben Turner clearance.

Carlton took the lead on 18 minutes, Tyler Blake twisting his way out of a mess of players in the area, stabbing the ball through a group of Sheffield defenders and into the net.

The visitors went close to doubling the lead midway through the half, with Niall Davie’s corner being met by a strong header by Martin Ball with the effort going inches wide, with the same combination ending with a Ball header going just over..

It became 2-0 a minute before the interval, a free-kick from the halfway line being met by a series of Carlton headers, with Tyler Blake looping the last one over the keeper.

Sheffield went closest in the opening moments of the second half, as great work on the left by Jordan Chapell fed Mitchell Dunne to fire a dangerous cross, with Ash Grayson firing over the top from close range with a diving header.

Chapell was the one to get Club’s first shot on target, with a fine drive from distance looking to head to the top corner, only for Jack Steggles to produce a fine fingertip save to push the ball over.

Ten minutes from time Carlton wrapped things up, with the referee penalising Club for a clumsy trip in the area, with skipper Tom Madison slamming the penalty home to make it 3-0.

To sum up a drab afternoon, Marc Newsham smashed the ball against the bar, with the rebound bouncing to safety.
