Ianto Jones (Director):
I’m delighted to be a part of Sheffield FC. It’s not everyday you get a chance to join such a historic club. I feel the clubs got an amazing community feel to it. I can’t wait to see the old dog Lee out there doing his thing. Maybe a couple steaks for each goal he scores?
Cooksey, first appeared in a Sheffield FC squad as a teenager, during a pre-season match against Barnsley in
2008. He then spent most of the season playing for the reserves but broke into the first team by the
end of the campaign, making his debut from the bench in a 2-0 win against Grantham Town. He
recorded his first start in the final game of the season, playing in midfield and heading home his first
goal as Club won 2-1 at Willenhall Town.
Lee made big strides the following season, making a total of 29 appearances to help Sheffield reach the
play-offs and win the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup. His versatility saw him play in a number of positions
across the defence and midfield, picking up 5 man of the match awards and scoring 3 important goals in
the successful S & H Cup run.
He was somewhat of a lucky charm in those early days and it was over 7
months after his debut before he ended on the losing side!
In 2010 he represented English Universities as they won the British Universities and Colleges Home
Nations Tournament in Scotland and played for Club on our tour of India. Over the next few years his
involvement at Sheffield FC would be fleeting before returning in the second half of the 2012/13 season
and playing a key role in the side which reached the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup Final in May. After
playing the early games of the next season he moved to Australia for work and it would be late 2015
before we saw him in a Club shirt again, following a short spell with Belper upon his return to England.
He became a near permanent fixture in the team over the next 2 years, making his 100th appearance in
October 2016 and being named player of the season for 2016/17 after scoring an impressive 8 goals
Since then there have been breaks in his Club records due to work, a short spell with Handsworth and a
few injuries but he always seems to find his way home. Lee is a quality player at this level, finishing 3 rd in
the player of the season award for 2019/20, and has now played a total of 165 games and can hopefully
become one of the select list of players to reach 200 in the near future.
