Sheffield FC edged into the quarter finals of the integra League Cup on Tuesday night, to book an away trip to Workington AFC, after beating Trafford 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating 90 minutes which ended 3-3.

 

Trafford got off to a flying start after 2 minutes, is Samuel Baird managed to turn the ball in to the goal after a free kick, beating Owen Evans at the near post.

 

Sheffield levelled after 11 minutes, with Jordan Chapel finishing a nice move down the right, placing a side footed shot into the corner of the goal to make it 1-1.

 

Two minutes later Trafford regained the lead, With Lewis salmon playing an excellent ball into the middle, and Max Hazeldine finishing with aplomb.

 

 

The game was end-to-end, but nothing happened with the scoring until the 75th minute, Sheldon Jordan doing great work on the left to pick out James Reed, with the midfielder making no mistake with an excellent equaliser.

 

It looked as if Sheffield FC had nicked the tie, following an absolute howler of a goal keeping mistake by Jonathan McIlwaine who allowed a through ball to bounce over his head, giving Sheldon Jordan the easiest of tap ins from close range.

 

Just as it loads that Trafford had fallen at the final hurdle, they were able to equalise in the dying seconds, with Samuel Baird Turning the ball home from a last-ditch corner.

 

 

So, it went to penalties, the first six spot kicks were all dispatched successfully, O’Brien, Palmer, and Salmon scored for Trafford, whilst Roney, Wonham, and Prior doing the same for Sheffield.

 

Sheffield keeper Owen Evans guessed correctly to deny Darius Palma, and after Lewis Thwaites scored his penalty, Evans was the hero of the night Repeating the trick to save Sam Grimshaw’s attempt to send Club through to the next round.
