Sheffield FC had a comfortable run out to open their domestic pre-season, as they ran out 4-1 winners over a feisty Penistone Church outfit, that had just missed out on promotion to Club’s division in last season’s campaign.

In this almost traditional fixture, it was the World’s First’s strike-force that created all the damage, as new signing Karl Demidh opened his account, along with last season’s hitmen Mark Newsham who chipped in with one and Mitchell Dunne who bagged himself a brace.

It was a lively start from the away side, and they took the lead on just two minutes; Ted Cribley’s free-kick from the left flank was met at the back post by Demidh, with Rory Coleman making sure there was no need for VAR by slamming the ball into the roof of the net.

Penistone started to get back into the game, and were the team doing all the pressing, however it was safe to say keeper Dylan Parkin was rarely troubled.

Club should have added a second just before the interval, Demidh turning provider on the left, putting in a ball that Coleman had time and space to deal with – only to place the ball into the hands of the home keeper.

Just after half-time it was Marc Newsham’s turn to be wasteful, having done all the hard work beating the off-side trap, the prolific striker put a tame chip directly into the arms of a very grateful Chris Snaith in the hosts’ net.

The lead was doubled on 56 minutes, as Club legend Matt Roney rolled back the years with a powerful run down the right, before crossing into Marc Newsham who made amends for his earlier indiscretion by taking a touch, before turning and slamming the ball under Snaith.

With just over ten minutes to go Sheffield were awarded a penalty, as the keeper clumsily bundled over Sheffield’s Trialist substitute, Mitchell Dunne stepping up to calmly place the spot-kick into the corner.

Shortly after Club were caught napping at the back, skipper Adam Chapman gifting possession to the home side, with Danny Barlow gleefully accepting the gift to slam past Jamie Ingham.

The scoring was wrapped up in the 81st minute, once again Roney was the provider – this time from the left – firing a cross into the middle that was smashed home on the half-volley by Dunne to underline an emphatic performance from the away side.

Sheffield FC: Parkin, Grayson, Coleman, Beatson, Darkin, Chapman, Cribley, Mohammed, Newsham, Demidh, Trialist. Subs: Ludlam, Roney, Dunne, Ingham, Chappell, Eagle, Winter, Smith, Trialist.
