Sheffield FC’s exciting Development side advanced one round further in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday evening, beating Stocksbridge Park Steels 4-2 at the Home of Football, in a game that was more clear cut than the scoreline suggests.

In a first half which was completely dominated by the home side, Sheffield took the lead after just six minutes following a Sam Penney, with the ball being turned home after a bit of defensive ping-pong by Alex Wonham.

Stocksbridge were able to stem the constant wave up until the 30th minute, at which point the lead was doubled from a Penney free-kick that was lofted in from 30 yards out, floating the ball over the head of Kian Sheedy into the back corner.
In the second half Sheffield continued to press, and could have extended the lead if not for some goalkeeping heroics by Steels’ keeper Sheedy, with the stopper denying Callum McKeown following a Wonham cross.

The visitors turned things around in a crazy five minute period on the hour, after the visitors were awarded a penalty for pulling in the box – Jacob Gibbon converting – and equalised after taking advantage of a quickly taken free-kick.

Club responded to this excellently and after Wonham had hit the post with a rasping shot, and Max Rhodes forced another save from Sheedy, Club made it 3-2 on 72 minutes after neat interplay between Jack Hackford and Alex Wonham saw Hackford finish with a superb curling shot into the far corner from 20 yards out.

Sheedy was the man keeping the score respectable for the visitors, and once gain was at his best to deny Wonham, after another strike from the striker, following a free-kick on the edge of the area.

The game was put to bed four minutes from time, McKeown seeing his shot saved by Sheedy, with Max Rhodes on the spot to tap in the rebound.
