Sheffield FC cruised to a convincing 3-1 victory over Worksop Town on Saturday, completing a fine and well-deserved double over their Nottinghamshire neighbours.
All three of Sheffield’s front men got on the score sheet, with Marc Newsham, Sheldon Jordan and Mitchell Dunne finishing whilst former Sheffield FC winger James Gregory replied for the visitors.
The game started with both sides pressing for the opener, however neither were able to test the opposition goalkeeper with anything of note, with Sheldon Jordan coming the closest forcing a fine save by David Reay.
Sheffield burst into life on the 34th minute, with Marc Newsham getting the right side of Deegan Atherton, before scoring a flashing strike across the keeper to give the hosts the lead.
Worksop levelled just two minutes later, following a defensive howler that saw ex-Clubbie James Gregory clear on an empty net and unopposed, making it 1-1 with a tap in after getting to the ball first to lob Jonathan Hedge.
The home side regained the lead just two minutes after that, with big Sheldon Jordan nodding home, following a deep free-kick from Cody Prior.
Scoring was completed in first half injury time, Mitchell Dunne looping a header over the keeper, after another well-delivered cross.
As expected Worksop came out of the blocks at breakneck speed at the start of the second half, and went close from a Matt Sykes shot which ones inches wide, whilst Freddie Tracy curled an effort not too far after off target after some good build up play by the visitors.
Club should have added to the score line but found themselves wasteful in front of goal, as David Reay made a fantastic double save to firstly deny Mitchell Dunne and then the rebound from Marc Newsham, followed shortly after by another one on one stop to foil Dunne once more.
Rear came to the Tigers rescue one last time, producing his best save of the afternoon to deny Nathan Nyamsi-Hendji, stopping the debutant with a find fingertip save to turn the youngster’s volley over the bar.
