Adam Oldham steps down as Sheffield Futsal Head Coach with immediate effect after 2 and a half years in charge.
“It’s been an amazing two and a half years as Head Coach at Sheffield Futsal Club. I have worked for, played in and managed an incredible club with a rich history in futsal.”
Oldham arrived during a difficult time for the club, having not long been relegated from the Super League and many players leaving as a result.
“After a spell at Manchester, I returned to Sheffield. The club had no futsal structure, no futsal players apart from Thomas Msadala and limited resources. Thomas was the only player that I knew from before. We both sat down and discussed the situation and what was needed for the club to continue.”
“2 and a half years later we have a squad of players who compete in every game, it’s great to see football players learning futsal and competing with every futsal team in the league. I think the biggest achievement came against Manchester, they are coached by who I consider to be the best futsal coach in the country Sergi Saldana. We were winning 5-4 with a few seconds to go, they equalized, we played really well, what a performance when you consider the infrastructure Manchester have compared to Sheffield.”
But he insists he has unfinished business left with Sheffield as he vows to battle it out for a place in the squad.
“Overall managing Sheffield Futsal Club on and off the court has been one of the most satisfying experiences I have ever had in sport, I have loved every minute of it. So it’s with happiness and fond memories that I am stepping down as manager. I will continue to train and if selected, play on game day.”
“Finally I would like to thank Daniel Berdejo-del-Fresno, who has advised and helped all the way. Daniel invited me to coach futsal in Italy which was an amazing experience, he has been a fantastic friend and true ambassador for Sheffield. Also I’d like to thank Sheffield Futsal founders Richy Moore and Mark England-Woodcock for equipment, support and advice. And everyone at Sheffield FC for the continued support”
Thomas Msadala will take over the Head Coach role for the upcoming season, stepping up from assistant coach. Msadala has vast experience in futsal and was part of a successful Sheffield side that won the Premiership North.
“Firstly, I would like to thank Adam for everything he has done for the club. He has laid a great foundation for which we should build on. I have taken this position knowing that I have a lot to learn as a coach and manager. I am excited about this adventure, I believe I have a lot to give to this great club that I have played for since 2011.”
“I’m looking forward to the challenge and building on the foundation that Adam has laid. I hope to use the experience and knowledge that I have gained from playing for some of the best coaches in the country in Adam [Oldham] , Daniel [Berdejo-del-Fresno], Ernest [Cardona], Sergi [Saldana} and Junior [Roberti].”
