Welcome to Japan's Pioneers
The Club of Pioneers has inducted its latest member, as Japan's oldest existing football club Yokohama C&AC joined the elite clan of national trailblazers.
Yokohama Country & Athletic Club was founded in 1868 as a sports entity, but in December 1886 they started a football section, one that has been going ever since.
The first official football match in Japan is widely believed to have been held on February 18, 1888 between the YC&AC and Kobe Regatta & Athletic Club.
The YC&AC celebrates their 150th anniversary as a sports club in 2018, and to recognise this fact they received a signed shirt of the Japanese football team that played the World Cup earlier this year, and at the same time they were welcomed into the Club of Pioneers by Sheffield FC.
Welcome to the Club YC&AC!
