Under 19s Fall Just Short in Cup epic
Sheffield FC's Under 19s came up just short of winning the Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development Football League Cup final, as they lost 2-1 after extra time, in a pulsating game at Belper Town's Christchurch Meadow ground on Tuesday night.
Club's youngsters - who look to have finished runners-up in the Northern Division to Sheffield United - came up against Southern Division champions Sandiacre Town, and took an early lead from a Danny Rose header after just 8 minutes.
The Saints responded with some good football, and equalised early in the second period, as a speculative free-kick from Tristan Comery looped over the head of keeper Levi Owen from 40 yards out to make it 1-1.
Ninety minutes of football failed to produce a winner, however three minutes into the first period Sandiacre got the decisive goal, as Sam Wilson hit a great strike to give the Derbyshire club the trophy.
The season isn't over for Richard March and Neil Cluxton's side, as they still have two games to play - both against Retford United - with wins in both being enough to level Club on points at the top of the table with the Blades, however with a 33 goal deficit to make up, it is unlikely they'll finish any higher than the fantastic second place ending.
