Sheffield FC/Maltby Academy Scholarship Success in Barcelona

Over the Easter period the SFC/MA U18 scholarship side travelled to Barcelona to test themselves against high quality Spanish opposition in the footballing capital. The team played three matches in five days and secured a 100% win rate. In the first game against CE Bufala the scholars found themselves pitched against a well organised, hard working local Spanish side but came out on top with 5-1 victory. They then moved on to face a technically strong side in the form of Viladecavalls and after a hard fought battle Maltby eventually ran out 2-1 winners. The final game was another highly charged, competitive affair against EF Brafa FC and this certainly tested the scholarship side at times. The team held their nerve and played some of their best football in the second half to finish 4-1 winners.

Mr Sutton, Chief Executive Officer from the Maltby Learning Trust, commended the players for their professional attitude over the five days. He was pleased with how well the team approached their first European football experience and feels that this will certainly prepare them well for next season when they move into the British Colleges CAT1 division. The players were positive ambassadors for Sheffield FC, Maltby Academy and our beautiful game.
