Naive Mistakes Sheffield's Undoing In Disappointing Display

Sheffield FC Ladies came away frustrated after a 5-1 defeat at Middlesbrough which, although a match they didn't create enough to win, was a result made more severe than it should have been due to a series of poor decisions leading to costly defensive errors.

A bright opening was blotted with the conceding of an unnecessary penalty, converted by Middlesbrough's excellent captain Emma Kelly.  Sheffield were well in the game for the remainder of the first half but went in 3-0 down thanks to two poor mistakes in the final five minutes of the half.

An early second half goal for Middlesbrough sealed the win, but Sheffield continued to work hard without ever creating much in front of goal - Ellie Russell's crossbar hitting effort the closest the visitors came.

Late on, a silly push in the back conceded a free-kick in dangerous territory which was duly punished by a spectacular Holly Manders' strike, before Megan Tinsley grabbed a Sheffield consolation just before the final whistle.
