Hume searching for first win at Corby
Sheffield FC face tricky away test this weekend at Corby Town buoyed by a fine second half performance in the local derby against Stocksbridge on Bank Holiday Monday.
Club twice came from behind to force a 2-2 draw but it left Mark Hume still searching for his first win as Sheffield boss. And the Club supremo is calling for his players to take the second half performance against their rivals from across the city into Saturday’s game at Corby.
“I thought we did well in the second half and showed what we can do. But we’ve got to start games much better and not just play for 45 minutes,” said Hume.
“After our first half performance, I was pleased to get a point. But we need to be stronger in the first half and not have to change things around at half-time to get back into games.
There are some big sides in this league that are spending good money, so if you’re not on your game from the off you will get punished.”
Hume says it will take time as he looks to rebuild the squad. “If you look at our team in the last game there was only four players that were here last season. We’re a new team that’s been put together.
If you look at Stocksbridge they’re a side that has been together for a while now and that shows on the pitch. We’re trying to do the same here. We’re still rebuilding and looking to bring players in. I think that we need a little bit of experience in the team that will help the players along like TJ (Mohammed Tijani) that have come in from the U21’s and U19’s
Our problem at the moment is in both boxes. We’re conceding too many sloppy goals while at the other end we’re creating chances but not putting them away.”
Hume says is looking forward to the trip to Corby “It’s a nice set up down there and a lovely pitch to play football on. It will be another tough game we know that. There are no easy games at this stage of the season. We have to make sure that we are on our game from the off.”
Corby go into the game level on points with Sheffield, but have lost the last four in the league since winning their opening fixture.
