Girls' U18s Support British Heart Foundation in Memory of Tom Fellows
With no league fixture for the second week running, Sheffield FC Girls' U18s took the opportunity to support the Tom Fellows Charity Match 2018 and help raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
The U18s match took place on Saturday morning, before the adult match, and saw Sheffield face Rotherham United Whitehill Girls U18s at the Phoenix Sports & Social Club in Brinsworth.
Tom Fellows, of Bramley, died in September 2016 at the age of just 19 after suffering a burst aorta, which was caused by a narrowing of the heart’s main artery. His family was totally unaware of the condition.
Since then, Tom’s mum Sue, dad John, and younger brother Ben have orgainsed several events to raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s appeal to install a new echocardiogram scanner at Rotherham Hospital.

Saturday's matches in remembrance of Tom are the third such football event, with an auction and dinner also held last year which have helped to raise thousands of pounds over the past two years.
In May this year, the Rotherham Heart Scanner Appeal reached its target of £104,000 thanks in no small part to the work of Tom's family and friends, and was able to add this vital piece of equipment to the hospital's facilities.
Tom's mum, Sue, said: “The last few years have been utterly heart-breaking. Tom loved life and he was looking forward to growing up, getting married and having children – all the usual things young people aspire too. He was fantastic, caring, thoughtful and had a smile which could light up any room."
“We owe it to him to keep going and our fundraising was our way of coping with the grief, of facing it and turning it into something positive."
“We hope that having the scanner in Rotherham will mean that patients with heart conditions are able to receive early diagnosis and treatment, so that other families in Rotherham don’t have to go through what we have."
A superb £1, 500 was raised for the British Heart Foundation throughout the day’s events, but donations can still be received for the charity.
