Forward Melissa Johnson Joins Club For New Season

Manager Zoe Johnson has added to her squad ahead of the new FA WSL2 season by securing the signature of the former Derby County striker.

The forward has spent the past five seasons at Derby County LFC, playing against Sheffield regularly in the FA Women's Premier League, so is a player the Club is well-familiar with.

The 25-year old London-born striker has scored nearly 40 competitive goals over the past two seasons for the Rams, and has shown a desire to try to push herself further and compete at a higher level.

Zoe Johnson is looking forward to working with her new signing: "I'm delighted Mel has agreed to sign for us. She's a quick forward with a real natural eye for goal."

"Since training with us, Mel has impressed all the staff with her professionalism, work rate and desire to want to be the best she can be. I'm looking forward to seeing her progress with us."

And, as chance would have it, the forward lined up for her first game in Sheffield colours against her former club as the team had an early pre-season run out a weeks ago.  Johnson was first on the score sheet as her new team registered a win against the Rams, and has bagged braces in two additional pre-season friendlies against FA Women's Premier League opposition.

Johnson had this to say about her arrival at Sheffield FC: "I feel it's the right time personally for a new challenge, and I want to push myself to achieve bigger things."

"I've heard nothing but positive things surrounding Sheffield FC, and am grateful to be given an opportunity to be apart of it. I hope to be a valuable asset in helping the club achieve as much as possible in the near future."

"I'm feeling settled already due to the girls and staff being so welcoming, and I'm really looking forward to the start of the season."
