Club overcome Rangers to face Robins
Sheffield FC’s Under 18 side overcame a tricky hurdle at the Home of Football, as they beat a very good Hall Road Rangers ide 4-3, to progress in the FA Youth Cup.
Dave Blunden’s young Clubbies gave an excellent account of themselves, and were 1-0 up inside the opening ten minutes, as Lewis Fisher finished a move he started in his own half.
Rangers levelled on 14 minutes, after a corner wasn’t dealt with effectively, allowing Jacob Todd to drive home at the back post.
Just before the interval Sheffield retook the lead, as Mahir Islam turned home a cross from the right, sending the hosts into the dressing rooms 2-1 up.
It looked as though Club would pull away with it when Islam Mahir grabbed his second on 69 minutes, after a dreadful handling error from the visiting keeper, giving the Sheffield player the easiest of finishes.
Hall Road pulled themselves back into the game on 75 minutes, as James Tullett took advantage of some hesitant home defending, making it potentially a nervous final 15 minutes for the hosts.
Three minutes later the calmness returned, when defender Sam Thames pulled down Finlay Barker in the box, with Barker stepping up to tuck the penalty home.
A last ditch assault from the visitors made it 4-3, with Luke Glover finishing from close range six minutes from time, however Sheffield did enough to hold out for a memorable win.
Next up for Sheffield is a trip to Selby Town, with the date and time to be confirmed shortly.
