First Team vs. Shaw Lane AFC (0 : 3)

Tuesday, 24 January, 2017 - 19:45
Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup

Sheffield FC ended their final interest in cup competitions for 2016-17 on Tuesday night, as they were eliminated from the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup by favourites Shaw Lane, with the Barnsley side running out 3-0 winners.

After a tight and hard fought first half, with the makeshift Sheffield side making a great fist of the battle, the Ducks turned the screw on the hour mark when Gary Burnett nipped in at the near post to turn home an Alex Byrne cross.

Ten minutes later and the tie was all but sealed, as ex-SFC Reserves player Kier Hannity made a 70th minute entrance from the bench, and scored to make it 2-0 with his first touch.

The score was given a harsh slant to it in injury time, when Danny South upended Hannity in the area, giving Gavin Allott the opportunity to make it three from the penalty spot.
