First Team vs. Shaw Lane AFC (0 : 1)

Tuesday, 7 March, 2017 - 19:45
Evo-Stik League First Division South

A brave performance saw Sheffield FC just fall short on Tuesday evening, as a solitary goal saw league leaders Shaw Lane run out 1-0 winners at the Home of Football.

It was a close game with the vital goal coming in the 52nd minute through The Ducks' prolific centre forward Gavin Allott, who capitalised on a pinpoint through ball from midfield after an attacking Sheffield free-kick was cleared, with the big man bursting through and finishing with aplomb.

Sheffield for their part gave a good showing, and the closest they came was when a Joel Purkiss free-kick was met by the head of Brian Cusworth, however with everyone stranded in the Shaw Lane defence the ball trickled inches wide.

Overall it was frustrating night for the hosts, which came to a head in injury time when Ant Wilson threw the ball at an opponent, getting a red card for his indiscretion.
