First Team vs. Rossington Main (4 : 1)
Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup
Sheffield FC cruised through to the second round of the 140th Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup, writes Stuart James, as they overcame a brave Rossington Main outfit 4-1.
The hosts used the game to give several fringe players much needed game time, with one – Charlie Dawes – making the most of the opportunity by rattling home a hat-trick, whilst teenager Frank Koroma marked his debut with a goal of his own.
Rossington on the other hand had several problems, missing several players through injury and work commitments, whilst preparations were made worse when the car carrying their kit and training equipment broke down on the Sheffield Parkway.
Wearing Sheffield’s away kit – which strangely enough was identical to their normal kit – Rossington started the better of the two sides, however it was the hosts who were the ones to break the deadlock on 29 minutes.
Lewis Price picked the ball up just inside the visitors’ half, playing it through to DAWES, who was able to pick his spot to slot the ball past Dan Morton.
Just before the interval the same duo combined to make it 2-0; Price dispossessing a casual defence, with DAWES rounding Morton to slide it into the empty net.
The introduction of 18-year-old Frank Koroma paid dividends for Club, and on 64 minutes he earned a penalty after rounding the keeper and being tripped; DAWES stepped up to slam home his third.
Rossington grabbed a consolation six minutes from time, after Sheffield flapped at a corner, McCREADY was on hand to hook the ball home from close range.
Club wrapped things up in the last minute, KOROMA getting behind the defence, finishing neatly over the keeper.
