First Team vs. Romulus (0 : 1)

Saturday, 13 August, 2016 - 15:00
Evo-Stik League First Division South

Romulus' tag of Sheffield FC's bogey team continued, writes Stuart James, as they returned to the Midlands with all three points on the opening day of the Evo-Stik season. A 39th minute goal from Dexter Walters was the difference between the sides, as Roms ran out 1-0, in a very scrappy and cagey contest at The Home of Football.

Romulus started the stronger of the two sides in a very scrappy opening, and after hitting the woodwork early on, took a deserved lead on 39 minutes when Dexter Walters’ scuffed shot eluded the crowded box to squirm home.

Neither side really threatened in the second half, with Reece Treasure shooting over for Sheffield, and Yohan Rutty-Smith going close for the visitors. Hafeez Hamzat had a great opportunity to level, finding himself unmarked in the middle, but heading wide.

The closest Club came was when Charlie Dawes showed a clean pair of heels to set up Reece Treasure in the middle, this time Matt Sargeant came to the rescue with a fine save, and the keeper repeated the feat five from the end from a Ben Turner header.
