First Team vs. Pickering Town (5 : 1)
Evo-Stik League East Division
Sheffield FC had a comprehensive victory on Saturday, writes Stuart James, as they swept struggling Pickering Town away with a 5-1 victory.
Club were in fine form from the off, and it took just two minutes for them to open the scoring, as Ben Turner played an inch-perfect ball into the middle allowing debutant Luke Rawson the opportunity to rise and nod home.
It was two on 30 minutes as once again Ben Turner turned provider, crossing the ball into Marc Newsham whose shot was saved, however James Gregory was on the spot to tap in the rebound.
At this point it was one-way traffic, with Rawson hitting the bar after dispossessing a dallying defender, and the third came almost immediately after.
Turner broke into the box once more, only to be crudely hacked down, the referee playing a good advantage, with Gregory sweeping in his second to make it 3-0 to the visitors.
Pickering had their chances to pull back into the game, but stunning goal-line clearances from Stuart Ludlam and Ben Turner kept the Pikes at bay.
The second half saw chances from Newsham and Gregory go close, whilst at the other end Adam Kelsey made a fine save from substitute George Bissett’s header, following a Joe Danby free-kick.
The game was pit out of reach ten minutes from time following Sam Wright’s battling run down the middle played in Marc Newsham, who squared the ball out to substitute Mitchell Dunne, who picked his spot to curl in the fourth.
Pickering grabbed a consolation straight from the restart, Nick Thompson won a header in midfield, with the ball breaking to Ryan Blott who lobbed the ball over Kelsey.
The icing on the cake came in the final minute, Jamie Yates deciding to try his luck from 30 yards, flying into the net off the post to give the game a emphatic scoreline.
