First Team vs. Ossett United (3 : 0)

Saturday, 3 November, 2018 - 15:00
Evo-Stik League East Division

Ossett United's first visit to the Home of Football Stadium was one to forget as they were easily beaten by the hosts 3-0.

Sheffield took and early lead on 10 minutes, after ex-Club keeper Brett Souter made a handling error following a cross, with Mitchell Dunne scrambling home the ball from the resulting melee.

Four minutes later the lead was doubled, again Souter at fault losing the ball at the feet of Dunne, with James Gregory slamming the all into the empty net.

Ossett were reduced to ten men after a horrendous challenge on home winger Johnny Pugh, axed down with a high foot by skipper Alex McQuade.

Club should have made it three with ten minutes to the break, as Dunne burst through a static defence to leave him one-on-one with the keeper, this time Souter came out on top with a brave stop.

Ossett by this time were quite shell-shocked with the start, and it took until five minutes from the interval for them toreally test Sheffield, with Adam Priestley forcing a good save from Adam Kelsey.

Three minutes after the restart, Kelsey denied the Gibraltar International once again, blocking the striker's effort with his feet.

The visitors were having the better of the second period, and really should have made an impact on the scoreline, with Chris Chantler wasting a free header with the goal at his mercy.

Sheffield never really looked like conceding, and a mixture of solid defending and a lack of creativity ensured Club were heading towards a rare clean sheet, and when the home side pressed forward they looked more likely to add to the tally.

On 68 minutes Club made things safe, as Stuart Ludlam picked out Marc Newsham, whose squared to Gregory who stroked home from the edge of the area.
