First Team vs. Morpeth Town (0 : 2)
Evo-Stik League East Division
Club came down to earth with a bump on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-0 away at the league’s other in-form team, table topping Morpeth Town who ended Sheffield’s five game winning streak.
It was a cagey and tight opening in what could only be described as perfect conditions, and neither keeper were tested by anything that could be considered close for the first twenty minutes, with Jeff Henderson heading the first chance over the bar from a free-kick.
The score was opened on 23 minutes, as wide-man Liam Henderson allowed too much time on the left, turning and shooting a deflected effort past the stretching Jonathan Hedge.
It became 2-0 quickly after, Wayne Phillips being brought down on the edge of the box, and David Carson stepping up to curl the free-kick into the top corner.
Club’s cause was done even more damage just after the restart, as Ashley Grayson left the field with concussion, following a clash with Liam Henderson.
There was to be no further scoring, but both sides had their chances - more so Morpeth - who could have extended their lead through efforts Ben Sayer who hit the post, Mick Turner and David Carson, with Sheffield going near through Marc Newsham.
Morpeth seemed happy and more than capable of seeing the game out, limiting Club to rare forays into enemy territory, with Rob Darkin’s header over from a James Gregory corner the closest the visitors came to grabbing a consolation.
