Sheffield recorded an impressive victory on Saturday at the Home of Football, as they continued preparations for the the upcoming Evo-Stik Division One South season, with a 4-1 victory over a skillful Matlock Town side.

In a tight first half there was very little between the two sides, with the only real chance of note seeing ex-Clubbie Alex Pursehouse clear off the line from Ross Goodwin, following a Matt Roney corner.

Lawrie Wilson tested Jamie Green early on in the second half, with the Sheffield keeper denied the Matlock skipper, producing an excellent one-handed save. Club broke loose though in a productive 12 minute spell, one that saw them race into a 3-0 lead, with a little help from the Gladiators' keeper.

In the 58th minute Ash Longstaff opened the scoring with a shot that probably should have been stopped by Jordan Pierrepont, instead the ball spun and rolled into the corner of the net, however there was nothing the stopper could do three minutes later as Longstaff set up Liam Greenfield for a confident finish.

In the 70th minute Will Wraith made it 3-0, with his volley squirming through the hands of Pierrepont, seemingly wrapping up the game as a contest.

Matlock pulled one back in the 77th minute, after Hafeez Hamzat stopped Jake Green's effort on the line, ex-Clubbie Marc Newsham volled an unstoppable effort from five yards out.

The goal of the game though came with just 6 minutes to go, as Greenfield bagged his second, having chested the ball down thirty yards out, the winger struck the sweetest of volleys that flew into the top corner.
